WOW! New Everlast Typhoon 230 Is An Outrageous New TIG Unit And Value!

I mean, I thought my 2014/2015 210EXT was still one of the most advanced AC/DC TIG units in its class (and the best-value too). And my 210EXT has that outstanding, PROVEN 60% duty cycle.

But not anymore (OK, it still kind of is).

This Typhoon 230 is on Everlast?s website, for preorder special pricing.

The big, new features are:

-Hi-def color LCD
-Independant AC Amplitude Control
-3 amp AC starts
-5 AC waveforms
-70% Duty Cycle at MAX output (SEVENTY, yes, SEVENTY)

WOW, just WOW!

One, extra little point is that the Independent AC Amplitude Control allows for two different waveforms being used.

And, incidentally, the Advanced Pulse (Mixed TIG) feature is still included on the Typhoon. My 210EXT has the Advanced Pulse, which does have some real application on AC for aluminum, when you want to get extra penetration, since it can be set for 100% DC on one half of the Pulse.

So, the Typhoon is undoubtedly the most-featured, advanced AC/DC TIG unit on the North American market.

I mean, a Miller Dynasty 210DX comes close, in features, but it did used to cost more for its full Pulse ability and for the AC Amplitude Control feature, by having to buy an added SD Media card to upload those "proprietary", optional features for about an added $500 (yes, I know, it's just a little quarter-sized plastic card with a few lines of computer code on it to un-hobble those under-350-amp Dynasty units).

That practice of Miller may be changing right now, as the newest Dynasty 210 doesn't seem to need an expensive, optional SD card to unlock all of its features. It think they also dropped the "DX" designation too. And that's to their credit, or due to peer pressure from the Market and those who bring more value to it for consumers, like Everlast. And, just as an added nod to Miller, their latest Dynasty has a much better duty-cycle now, at 60%, for its 210 max amperage. But, the Typhoon is 70% duty-cycle at 230 amps, which probably equates to around 83% duty-cycle at 210 amps.

But, the Dynasty units still make you pay extra for an added "CPS" featured model, which is just an outlet for syncing a water-cooler to power-on at the same time, so that you don't forget to turn it on and burn up your torch. Most every AC/DC Everlast TIG unit has the that, I, believe, and doesn't charge extra for it. My 210EXT does, even though I don't use it.



Now, the pre-order price is about $2500 for the Typhoon, with free shipping, apparently for the holiday season at the Everlast website. And, if you're outside the Alta California taxing zone, you'll pay no sales tax upfront (as opposed to buying on Amazon).

So, if you're comparing a Dynasty 210 to the Typhoon 230, the Dynasty 210, with CPS, is about $6500, as a bare tool. That's right, no torch, no pedal, no nada! And that probably means it's about another $1000, after they're added, plus any shipping and sales tax.



Of course, Everlast includes a TIG torch kit and pedal at no charge. But, like my 210EXT came with the Typhoon includes two torches, one water-cooled and one air-cooled. And the air-cooled one is a 9 series, which is has a light duty-cycle for the torch and cable, so it's kind of odd that way, and you may want to upgrade to a 17 or 26 torch assembly for air-cooled TIG welding out-of-the-box.



Now, it becomes obvious that $2500 divides into $7500, three times! And that's Anti-Inflationary!

Wow, I'm just now stumbling onto some more features on the Typhoon, with its Stick functions. I'll just quote from the Everlast sales website:

"Not only is The Typhoon 230 a premier TIG welder, it is also a top-level stick welder with features such as AC and DC stick output, with adjustable AC balance and Frequency, and excellent 6010 performance. It also has arc force control (dig) and hot start adjustment to combine to run E7018 as smooth as any welder out there. The combination of the features makes this unit perfect for welding out in the field or in the shop doing fabrication and production welding. The unit has up to 200Amp Stick output at 70% duty cycle which means this unit is perfect for running root, fill and cap passes."

So, you can get "freqqie" with it on Stick, too!
