Thread: New WP9 torch question...

  1. Default New WP9 torch question...

What size collets are coming with the new WP9 flex head torch, and will they use a common gas lens from other readily available torches?
    Thanks.

If I remember right they come with the standard sizes that our other torches come with. If not, they will interchange with any WP 9 or 29 Weldcraft series torch which cost a dollar or so each, and is available at any local welding supply store.

    Thanks Mark!

The WP9 uses a smaller collet than our standard torches . And the gas lens is also smaller than the 17 -18 etc.
Each torch comes with 2 Ceramic nozzles and 2 electrode holders included.
Presently the U.S has some available

    Thanks Duncan,
I need to clarify both things we said. Both are right.
The WP 9 and 20 can accept the same size Tungsten electrodes...what I meant to say.

The WP 9 and 20 physical size of the collets are different than our other series...what you said.

To sum it up, if you have a supply of wp 18 size collets, then you will need to get some more to add to your inventory for the WP 20/9 series. Both series interchange with standard weldcraft and other brand torches. They all can be bought locally at a very small price.

Thanks for the help guys, but really wanted to know "What size collets", (meaning in tungsten size), come with the torch.
I suppose the next question would be what sizes will the WP9 torch handle?
    Thanks again!

If your WP9 torch should is rated at 250 amps it should be able to handle up to a 1/8" tungsten. If as stated above, they use industry standard collets, cups and lenses then you'll find the collets at most any decent welding store. You'll need a matching sized lense also.

There are some kits on eBay that are very inexpensive and shipped from China. I've never tried them. If they are made with recycled copper then it will likely have a higher percentagel of tin and will heat up more than high grade copper.

Whoops, I appologize, my bad, I was reading 9 and thinking 20... Sorry... 150 amps max on the 9 I think. 3/32 is probably the biggest you'd want to run in that.
