    Default PT200DX Pulse questions

I bought PT200DX a few months back. New to TIG welding, also taking a TIG class at local community college. My pulse function doesn't seem to be working. I weld a few welds and no pulse. Then it starts working. Where should all my switch be set to. I'm using the foot control. Also when using the foot control I don't seem to have control. It starts the arc but there is no change when I push all the way down or at any point of the travel. Just wondering if I"m doing something wrong. Otherwise I've been happy with the machine.

On my 250EX I started experimenting with it in low mode. The rocker switch is in the middle position for that. I set the knobs in the middle of the ranges and then played with it from there.

In high pulse the A/C frequency can mask the pulse but it is happening, you just have to play with the adjustments until you figure out where you like it.

If your pedal is working correctly then try adding a little upslope and downslope. I was playing with it today and found it was a lot smoother comming on and getting off the pedal. Also if you use a high A/C freq setting because it feels better your arc will be wider and the changes in current won't be as dramatic as they are with a lower frequency and tighter arc.

Finally got some time to do some welding. There is something wrong with the foot pedal. it doesn't control the amperage it will start the arc and that is it. Also with the foot pedal hooked up it acts like it is in pulse. Took it apart and put back together and it worked like it is supposed to for a few welds, than back to not working right. Works great with the finger switch, but thats a pain. Wonder if the foot pedal is under warranty or if others have had the same problem.

I had a problem with my foot pedal not working too. Everything worked fine with the torch switch, but with the foot pedal strange things would happen. It started with the arc not terminating when I let off the pedal. Then it developed into the amp output spiking up to 450 and torching my tungstens (still worked fine on the torch switch). Everlast replaced my pedal, but that wasn't it. Then they had me replace a CMOS multiplexor chip on the pedal daughter board, but that didn't fix it. Then my welder stopped working correctly with the torch switch, so off it went, back to Everlast. The degradation in performance happened over the course of a month. My unit did not have any outward sign of damage, but with the cover off, the top support sheet for the main circuit board had 1/3" of sag in the center, indicating some sort of impact/drop damage. It might not hurt to check your unit for internal signs of damage.

Give us a call. Even you can call me today. Leave a message, and I will call you back if I don't answer. (See my number below). I believe it is a matter of foot pedal timing, and the gear has slipped off the cog, or something related to that, according to your basic description. Your problem doesn't sound like Adam's.
