I recently received my PowerPro 205 multi-function machine from Everlast Australia. I had originally ordered a PP256 but they (and the 250EX) are only supplied as 3 phase machines here due to our wiring rules.
Anyway, I’m mighty happy with the 205. Everything functions as it should but it really shines for aluminium welding. I’m really impressed. While I’ve done a bit of TIG welding on steel, this is my first AC/DC machine and it only took a few minutes of practice to be laying down some nice shiny beads. Some folk on this forum don’t like the standard TIG torch but I find it really comfortable and easy to use. The foot pedal is the older model I think but it works fine. I really like the Trafimet style plasma torch but I’m still working on getting the best performance out of it.
The machine works happily off a 20A breaker (240V single phase). No gas leaks (cylinder gauge still shows contents pressure a day after turning off the valve). The HF start is powerful – much better than my previous “no-name” DC only TIG. It’s very hard to fault this machine although I would have liked a gas pre-flow adjustment.
If anyone in Australia or New Zealand is interested in a new welder, I can highly recommend Bob and Ted at the new Aussie Everlast dealership. They are hard working folk (they tested, packed, and shipped my machine on the Christmas Day/Boxing Day public holidays) and are fast to respond to any and all questions. Their web site is www.everlastwelds.com.au or click on the Aussie flag in the US site. (Usual disclaimer: no affiliation other than as a satisfied customer.)
