My name is Frank. I retired in 1988 from civil service. I worked as a civilian for the Air Force for 35 years and 11 months. Jobs I held were aircraft mechanic, aircraft engine mechanic, aerospace ground equipment mechanic, vehicle maintenance supervisor on aircraft loading, fire fighting materials handling, aircraft refueling and base maintenance equipment. I was a Vehicle Maintenance Superintendant when I retired. I worked at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware for all but the last job. That was at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas
While working on aerospace ground equipment, I did quite a bit of welding, which I was taught by people from the aircraft welding shop. I never reached "master of the art" status, but My welds held up pretty well.
Now I do welding for myself, building attachments for my garden tractor, and carts, shelves and tables for my shop equipment. My shop started as a woodworking shop, but has expanded into metal work.
In addition to a full complement of woodworking equipment, I have a Miller 225 amp stick welder, a Lincoln 180 amp wire feed welder, Atlas metal lathe, table top milling machine, Grizzly sheet metal machine, pipe bender, metal bender and an Everlast Super Cut 50P that arrived today.
I don't post much, but I am constantly looking for hints, ideas and help to get better in whatever I do.
This is a long introduction, but it's who I am. I hope to learn a lot by reading your threads.
