250EX issues

I have a 250EX and have a problem. I am having troubles with the arc at lower amps. I am using the original foot control and at lower amps the arc kind of sputters for a lack of better description. It seems to go away if I try to hold the foot control in a position with out moving the pedal. It also seems to go away at higher amps using the foot control. So it seems to me to be the potentiometer. I was speeking with Mike on Friday but he seems to be off today. My other question does this sound like it could be a hf gap issue? I don't think so but I was reading the other post's and saw where some of these machines where shipped with the gap set wrong. I also would like to change to a low profile pedal and I have a Thermal Dynamics foot control but it has a 5K ohm potentiometer. I found a 47K ohm potentiometer at Neweark however it looks like the shaft is to short. Anyone know where I can purchase the correct pot?

Yes, if your join date is an indication when you got your machine, you may have an older powertig unit and it could be due for some minor adjustment. We'll be back answering calls on Monday(no holiday for us). I think Rugar just bought an upgraded foot pedal from an aftermarket company and has a thread about it and the torches.

As I recall when I purchased the welder it was at the time the new design was due in. I remember passing up the previous version to wait for the new design. Any way the inspection sticker date on the top of the welder is 10/09 if that helps.
