    Default Cut50d

I purchased a CUT50D a few years back and just started to use it.

It works OK, but I'm sure it could use an alignment.

By any chance does anyone have a copy of the schematic, service manual, or any alignment procedures that they would be willing to share?

    Thanks,

    Ken

    Ken,
There's not much "alignment" to do. Just clean and check your point gap. There is a manual posted online. If its starting good though, there isn't much to do.

If you can't find the manual, PM me your email and I will send it to you via email. I had a guy last week asking for a manual for a Cut50D (we have not sold them for some time) and I remade the .PDF manual and sent it to him, so I still have it. He said it was not in our manuals page which I thought it was like Mark mentioned.

You bought a plasma cutter a few years ago and are just firing it up?

    Unfortunately, yes... :-(

I had a few things come up that stopped me from working on my project, but I am back on track now. :-)

If it is just the owners manual, I have this. If it contains schematics, and/or alignment procedures, I would definitely appreciate it and will PM you my e-mail address.

Thanks to both of you for the advice,

    Ken

    Bump...

Anybody with a service manual or schematic?

My box works OK for a cut or two and then the arc quits for no reason during following cuts. So, I would like to do an alignment if possible and maybe take a measurement or two to see if I can figure out why the arc stops.

    TIA,

    Ken

Hey, Ken sorry I missed your call, as I remember I was on the phone with a customer, for quite a while when you called.
But I think I messed up and deleted your message before I took note of your number, and it would be a shot in the dark to try to call from my call log.
PM me your number or give me a call back please..

    Ken,

You can PM me your number as well. Ray is in Alaska, so he is probably sleeping right now. Did you check the points and make sure they are in the .035 range and straight?

As far as schematics, you will not see them for any other color welders (blue/red, old models or new). There are people that actually watch us and try to copy what we do all the time. To give them our older design would not be smart and we still use a lot of that design in the new designs as well. You will not see IPhone 1, 2 or 3 schematics out there since the 4G is out. Companies have to protect the products.

It was the description of the rhythmic cutting in and out that made me ask. I was thinking a kink in the line inside the machine or the torch.
I think I still have your number in a PM, are you around and awake?

    Ken,
If I remember right, way back, when we had the PT 31 torches, we had some issues with some of the replacement, and stock consumables.

Mark, I think I have the SG-55 torch used on the 60A units - purple ceramic cup. I will take a set of new consumables in to try and see if they make any difference.

Ray, I will be at the college until late tonight, so you can try to call if you want. However if I am in class, I won't have my phone on me.

    Thanks guys,

    Ken

Mark, I think Ken is probably an old school electronics tech, the term was originally used in reference to old TV’s and was carried on the 2-way radio’s for a bit (Maybe still).
Basically the term is synonymous with “Tune Up”.
    Ken,
That is one of the earlier 80A torches, it looks to be in good shape, but they are known for having issues. And what is happening does sound like a possible torch issue.
If you can give me a call and I’ll help you inspect it, they seem to be more susceptible to damage from moisture in air line than others.
Sorry it seems we've been playing phone tag, but if you call and I can't pick up, leave your number and I'll call you right back.

    Thanks,

    Ray

I am home right now and my box is at work. I will try to call when I'm at work so I can look at it while talking to you. You should still have my number, I PM'd t to you a few days ago...

Why is there a blue arc between the points when the box is on, but it is not being used? Why does the arc between the points stay on when the torch arc is on and then go out when the torch arc quits while being used?

The symptoms sound to me like it might be a cold solder joint on a PCB...

Ken, sounds like a possible air flow issue. Is the pressure holding when the air is flowing?

Ray, I have lots and lots of air, I am using this at the college where I work.

I put the switch in the test position and the air flows out of the nozzle continuously at a steady state - this is how I set the air for the desired psi when cutting.

So, I really don't think it is a psi or cfm issue.

    Any other ideas?

    TIA,

    Ken
