Default Questions about the TIG Pulse Option on the Power Ultra 250p

I recently received a Power Ultra 250p and was sold on it since it had the pulse option. Thing is, I can't find anywhere that says what the parameters of the pulse switch are. Its very basic, with just just an Off/Low/High switch on it. The unit didn't come with a manual and the stuff on the website isn't up to date.

I'm looking for what each setting does i.e. Pulse Frequency, duration, and ratio. Thanks for any info you might have.

There are no settings. The manuals are up to date, with the exception of pointing out the pulse feature on the ultra. To use it manually, just keep it on low. The only difference between it and a regular PU is the pulse switch.

I don't think you got what I was asking. I realize it is the same as the other units, but I specifically asked about the Pulse switch. I wanted to know what "High" means and what "Low" means? For instance, when set to Low, how often does it pulse, for how long and how much. The same for High. Especially with the higher frequency pulse, its hard to tell what it actually is by looking at it.

No answer on this one or are you still looking it up?

Are there any knobs to adjust the pulse? Usually blue?

No knobs, just a rocker switch that has Off/High/Low. Just want to know what each means as far as parameters.

    Haku,
I assume you have the 250EX since the PowerUltra 250P doesn't appear to have pulse adjustment. For the 250EX the switch just changes the range of adjustment on the pulse frequency knob. If you look at the knob it has 2 ranges of settings, low is from .2-20, Hi is from 20-500. Mine (225LX) doesn't have this extended range. Yes, that would be pulse envy...

I do notice in the specs for the 250P that it does say it has hi/lo pulse. I don't see a switch for it though...

This is a new update for the Ultra 250, which makes it Ultra 250p. I got the shop demo one, so they may not be shipping them yet. It just adds a very basic Pulse capability.

Here is a picture of the control switches...

Just a switch, no knob. Just want to know what "Pulse High" means and "Pulse Low".

Yes, your right, they are not for sale yet, I couldn’t figure where that came from, but I heard you got it at the show in Atlanta.
So honestly I have no idea, but will find out for you, please be patient, we’ll get the answer. I haven’t seen a manual yet.
So what do you think of the unit?

I actually called Oleg last week wanting a Ultra 205, but they were out of stock and nothing coming in for at least a month. He said the only one they had for a similar price was this pre-production demo unit. I'm actually in Colorado, so there must have been more then one unit that sold.

I haven't turned it on yet since I am still in the process of wiring my garage for 220v power, but the unit looks nice and the stuff that came with it seems nice and stout. I'll throw a review up once I start using it. I'm a complete TIG newbie (haven't run a bead at all with a TIG), but I've been wanting to learn for a long time. It will be nice to have something more precise then my Millermatic 211, so it was an easy sell to get one of the Multi Process units over just a Plasma cutter.

Thanks for the info when it comes. I just like to know what I'm working with, and the pulse feature on this was what sold it to me over similar brands to Everlast. Looks like its a nice feature to have after seeing some of the "welding tips and tricks" videos.

When I have more information on the new model, I will post it up. But I am betting it is probably .5 hz and 20 hz roughly. The pulse Hz is preset with 2 fixed and non adjustable settings. It is a tool, if it works for you. It should not be construed to believe that it will necessarily improve weld quality or help you in all situations. Yes, this appears to be the show unit, and at the time was set possibly to different parameters than the ones about to go into production. I have sent inquiries in about that unit to confirm, but with the holidays and things trying to return to normal over there, communication is a little slow on non critical communicae.

BUT, just as Lincoln and others have a "fixed" ambiguous pulse setting on their tig units, the pulse is there if you want to use it, and any "parameters" are a moot point, since it will either work for you or not.

I have ask the same question about the PU 205P. I am guessing the answer for one will be the same for the other. I ask this question on May 20th in this thread

http://www.everlastgenerators.com/fo...ower-Ultra-205 also in post #17 of that thread I posted my findings / guesses. I also inquired of Oleg via PM

On June 2nd and he said he would ask Mark to contact me with the information.

Thurmond. I have sent an email to the factory even before the question was asked. But have not received a reply. I was out of the loop on development of this feature on the machine. If anyone has it, it would be Duncan or Oleg themselves. I have asked about it, but not gotten an answer about it.
