Thread: Custom microphone stand

    Default Custom microphone stand

Hi all. I n addition to working with metal, my other major hobby/interest is music. I have been a vocalist in a band for about a year now and we have played a few small venues here in the area but now we are booking shows on a weekly basis and I want to build myself a custom mic stand. it will also give me an opportunity to work with some thinwall tubing which I haven't done very much of. The music is mostly covers that you would hear on a hard rock station and also some older tunes like slow ride and mony mony. It's an edgy take on songs that most of our audience has already heard, primarily hard rock though. So I'm trying to get some ideas for the project. I dont have a mill, and I would like it to reflect who I am and what I do. I thought about incorporating wrenches or something like that or engine parts like a camshaft but I want to do it artistically, not just weld a camshaft on the end of a stick and call it a custom mic stand. So, any ideas from the peanut gallery?

something very interesting to envision. The first thing that comes to mind is a Flywheel for the base. Or even a hubcap over the standard base. I think the tool idea has merit also. Only problem I see is how to do this without it becoming too bulky and something that you only use once because it becomes a pita to lug around. Anything you do above and beyond the standard mic stand will become heavy and bulkier for sure.

    love the idea!
truck brake rotors always work great for a base, somthing like an old front crossmember from an old truck would look awesome as the main post..

twisted solid square stock always looks awesome, and would give it a hardcore feel.

It would need to be easily transported for sure so Maybe an Air filter over the normal base. and sleeve the stock tubing with exhaust tubing and a cherry bomb muffler and use a chrome exhaust tip to shroud the Mic itself.
If you didnt mind the weight and bulk use a real head for the base and header as a riser and a collector to hold the mic at the height you need
