Thread: Home made rotisserie

    Default Home made rotisserie

Well for one of the projects I have going I decided to use a rotisserie. Rather than paying 2K for one, I invested about $100 and me and a friend built one. I did not get to use an everlast unit on it as I have not got it yet but felt I would share. The car on it in the pics is a large project of mine that will see plenty of use from the PowerPro256.

I will get to post more projects here soon involving stainless steel and aluminum.

That is a 94 VW Jetta that is front wheel drive. I am converting it to a AWD car with a built 3.4L 24V 6 Cylinder Twin Turbo-ed. That is why the rear floor is cut out.

Nice, I like to tinker with VW's. The drive train I am using for this build is that of a 04 R32. The R was totaled and I purchased it just for this project. I have taken out the rear floor and it will be fit to this car. I will have to start a few project threads as this is a big one but I have a 99 Jetta GLX that is getting a big valve head with cams and a bunch of other stuff. The TIG purchase was for both of these projects and will be used for stainless steel exhaust and aluminum intakes. I am sure I will find more uses for it and have some ideas but tend to use a MIG for a lot of things. I will be in the market for a good MIG sometime but for now my friend has one in the shop that I get to use.

EDIT: Forgot I was going to say I have a 90 Jetta also and my brother has a 2002 cabrio and a 91 Jetta.

Two engine stands also work well as rotisserie's. Thats what I use for painting race car chassis's.

That's a good idea. I actually though about that but for what two stand cost I have into this and each caster is rated at like 750lb's. Also with this we can adjust height and length to fit other vehicles and with them tied together I can roll it around. The ends are pretty much the same as a engine stand though.

Looks good. I have made a few for various projects in the past. One thing you can do is use two pieces of tube that telescopes in itself on the vertical offset portion (just to the right of the screwdriver in the upper picture) and use a jack screw through the center axis of the tubes with a nut plate to adjust the height. (can even scavenge the parts from a large C-Clamp if needed) This allows adjustment for other items that may have a bit different center of gravity as well as adjustment as you add or take away from the vehicle that you are working on.

We made one when we fabricated the chassis to this unmanned vehicle. Primary materials of the chassis were AL5456 and Ti-6-4

Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

That vehicle is awesome. For the rotisserie, it is already height adjustable and the part that attaches to the car, we figured for how often it would be used we could just weld up new parts for each vehicle. If we used it a lot then I could see the need for adjustable ones. We have at least 70 pipes left. Between me and the other two people that use them I think they will last a long time.

wow that is awesome your giving me ideas that might get me in trouble LOL. Id love to make something like that suspension and drive train for a Powered wheelchair for myself. The generic wheelchairs that are available now are just too slow and safe O.o. I have a wheelchair now that does 18 mph and will do big old wide power slides on damp parking lots, been looking to build something that has some off road and climbing capabilities. I would just put four actuators on the seat with a center pivot and a couple of gyros and the seat would stay level regardless of the attitude of the power base underneath me.
