Well my 255 made it to the house today safe and sound, UPS didn't even destroy the box. I bought a new bottle of argon now I need to get some rod and wait for my tungsten to be redelivered, all is well.

Got that right Christian. Hey Christian where is all the filler rod made these days I would imagine a good chunk is made over there and is there a difference between what is made here and over there ? Midwest Tungsten said their tungsten is made right in Chicago.

    Nah,

I don't think it matters with TIG filler. I like those small, transparent tubes of WeldCote filler, which is well-liked by numerous users, beyond me.

Certain MIG wire types or manufactures seem to matter more to some welders, though. I think INEFIL from Italy is a highly-regarded MIG wire here in North America for value and quality.

Midwest for tungsten is undoubtedly good. I think I've used some. I've usually gotten cheap tungsten and never had a problem. But more recently I've begun using some German TriMix tungsten that seems quite good.

One thing I didn't realize that I found out recently is that the reason there is no tungsten in the consumable kit is that it's much harder to import tungsten and causes a lot of problems. I thought it odd that they included everything except the tungsten. The machines get QA'd in China and the boxes aren't opened, so it would also be a LOT of work to put something in the box Stateside, which is understandable.

I have noticed that while looking for filler rod and tungsten the sellers are pretty tight lipped about where their products are made but one things for sure when your shopping at Harbor Freak you most definitely know where it comes from and their filler rod costs as much or more from any other seller.

I rarely go to HF, mainly because it smells so bad in the place, and I figure it's mostly recycled coke cans in the products. I once had a tool break and a broken end mill was in the casting, so it made it clear where most of that stuff comes from. It was a slight disappointment when I first opened the Nova pedal as it had that Chinesium smell to it, much worse than anything inside the welder box or packing...but it must be that rubber on the cord, where the machines have a harder plastic on the power cord.

My $0.02 FWIW, go to your local welding shop as they will most likely carry some CK tungsten, I have no idea where it is made, but it is what most people use. That midwest stuff was hanging on the wall of my LWS as well, so I'm sure it's fine. I don't know about HF tungsten, I avoid going in the place unless I need to.

I know what your saying Alan it does have its own smell its probably the smell of lead they have an over abundance of lead over there that they have been trying over the years to get rid of or so it would seem .And its also kind of creepy walking around in there with all that foreign stuff and you never know when someone might sneak up in back of you and throw a black bag over your head and the next thing you know you wake up in a foreign country sold as a sex slave.

I always refer to that smell as the products being covered in 2 week old Chinese food. They put cosmoline on everything. But I believe it is the rubber products, and it is probably lead or some type of radioactive material to be certain...

This is after all the same evolution we watched Japan go through during the 70s and 80s and by the 90s Japan became one of the best at manufacturing. It still hurts me that we're off shoring our manufacturing to them, we only help China grow faster than the U.S. in that regard and catch up with us. A lot of technology is coming out of Japan, and even China these days...one day they may be better than the U.S., and that's a scary thought.

That said, the reason I recommended your LWS is that you may need their help in the future, if nothing else but to buy gas. Tungsten is available in packs for 3 to get you started for the price of a happy meal.

Well we helped Japan get to the top after WW2 when we rebuilt their whole country and as far as our money lender country goes a lot of their tech is stolen tech I do believe much of it being from the U.S.

Hello I am new to Everlast welders. I have used/owned Millers,Lincolns, Hobarts stick/tig and mig welders. I have purchased a 2018 255 EXT. I am curious if the circuit boards on the new 255 EXT units looks as well as the ones in the pictured here in this post. I know this is an older post but hopping someone could enlighten me.

As someone else stated here the circuitry looks to be high quality. This is a European version but should have same build quality correct?

As far as the sales go Alex and Alexandra @ Everlast sales have treated me well so far and I was upgraded to the Nova pedal and larger water cooled torch for no extra cost. Just waiting to see the unit itself and find out for myself what its truly made of.

I went with the 255 EXT as I do work on everything from small projects using 16 gauge to projects using 1/2 inch steel so I didn't want to be under powered amperage wise. I am also considering a plasma cutter from Everlast in the near future.

Anyway, any experiences or if anyone has any feedback on this older 210 EXT and its insides and how it compares to the newer insides of the latest 255 EXT that I am expecting to arrive soon would be appreciated!

The pics look top be from a 2012 model.

    Thanks!

    Yeah,

That pre-2015 210EXT model is far different, inside and out, from my 2015 210EXT, which is much like the all the 255EXT and the 325EXT.

I mean, that early 210EXT was probably not made at the same factory as newer EXTs. Not that the older EXT is bad. It's more compact. But the circuit boards are the surface mount style, which some may think is better somehow. But Everlast seems to now prefer the hole-through syle for their main board, I think recall somebody from Everlast on the forum here state.

I liked the newer EXT digital interface when it came out for the 210 model, in 2015, which was a selling factor, to me, over the older style, which was still being sold, I believe, when I bought my 210EXT.

Hole through seems to be more rugged. I like the mechanical connections I saw on that one and clean routing of wire.
